Survivor’s Climb: A Framework for Healing from Narcissistic Abuse

Recovery from narcissistic abuse begins by shifting the focus back to the survivor’s needs. Drawing inspiration from Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, I developed this framework to starts with the basics: stabilizing physical and emotional health, before moving through more complex needs.

Like climbing a mountain, this journey is rarely linear. The pyramid structure of this model reflects an upward trajectory, but setbacks, pauses, and revisits to earlier phases are a natural and expected part of healing. The Survivor’s Climb is not about perfection—it’s about resilience, progress, and reclaiming a life rooted in peace, self-worth, and authentic connection.

What if I am unsure if it is Narcissistic Abuse?

That's OK, you can still seek treatment with me and we can achieve great results.  Narcissistic Abuse is an umbrella term that covers unhealthy, unhelpful and downright abusive relationship patterns.  We will not be diagnosing the other person, but we will examine behavior and come up with a strategic plan on how YOU would like to proceed in your relationship.

FAQs

  • How much does a session cost?

    • $150/hour.  Payment is expected at time of service.

  • Do you take insurance?

    • No, insurance does not cover services that don't directly connect to a diagnosis.  At this time, there is no diagnosis for concerns related to emotional abuse and not every client qualifies for PTSD.  Further, high-conflict divorces and custody battles often use diagnoses (such as PTSD) as weapons.

  • Can you provide a superbill?

    • Yes, absolutely.  If we choose to do a superbill (check with your insurance about your deductible) we will have to discuss diagnosis

  • How long does therapy normally take?

    • This is different for every client I meet and has a lot to do with level of trauma and goals.  Some client's I have seen for as little as a few months, others for several years, particularly if they have yet to be able to safely leave the relationship and abuse is ongoing.

  • Do you see client's in person?

    • No.  Many of the client's I see struggle with coercive control, tracking and stalking and are able to meet me where is most safe for them (including libraries, friends houses, grocery store parking lots and even the back of their closet).  Further, I see client's across the United States in Idaho, South Carolina and Florida, so many of them are not close enough for in person sessions.

  • Do you treat Narcissism?

    • No, at this time there is not a scientifically proven treatment protocol for Narcissism.  I only see people struggling with the impacts of emotional abuse, coercive control and narcissistic abuse.
